Say NO to bullying!

Just few years ago, I heard of the word of bullying for the first time. I thought, "What in the world is it anyway?" When I learned about bullying, finally I understood what it is all about.

When I was a little girl in elementary school, I liked to tease Teena (*not her real name). No, she was not only a girl friend in my class, she was my best friend after all. I called her names, especially an insult about her family name. Once, she cried out and went to our home teacher. I was grounded and by the time, she was not my best friend anymore.

Bullying is when somebody is made to feel uncomfortable, unhappy, and desperate, because of the acts of others. Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical strength or social standing.

At first, I wondered why bullies bully other people. I tried to get back to my elementary years. The more I thought about Teena, the more I hated my self. The bullies bully people because they pretend they are tough. They have to show that they have power to hurt other people. They want to be liked by others. Some bullies hide their own fears by teasing other people. Honestly, they are unhappy because they don't like who they are.

Maybe Teena kept asking herself, "Why ME?". I myself had no answer. Maybe because she was just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe because I was envious of her because she was so good in bahasa Indonesia. Maybe because she was so shy. I really didn't know why I picked on her.

Bullying is really, really WRONG! Everybody deserves a safe and peaceful life, at school, at home, everywhere. Join me, say NO to bullying!!
